In my last post we talked a little bit about Web 2.0 applications starting to connect to one another. We have seen applications like Twitter connect to Facebook and tell people about your current state. Address 2.0 simply adds LOCATION to your online experience. For example, photo-sites like Flickr allow you to geo-tag(hip lingo for: a spot on a map) your photographs.

For Fun:

1. Go to maps.google.com
2. Enter any location. You can even try Greensboro.
3. Make sure Photos is selected in the MORE menu at the upper right hand corner of the screen.(just left of map/satellite/terrain).
4. Zooming in and out of the map should produce an array of photos for you to click on and view.

Remember the milk has also mashed(incorporated) it's data with maps. You can now add a location on a map to an item on your list.

Address 2.0 is not only about where you have been but also where you are. For those of you with Gmail accounts, Google has just added the ability to automagically add location to your e-mails. The possibility now exists for someone to be able to see what you did and what your location looks like by a mere e-mail. I encourage you to take a look at some of these applications, have some fun and see what people are doing...and where.

Good Morning. One of the applications that I will be demonstrating during my presentation is called Remember The Milk.

Remember The Milk is a FREE web application that allows you to create lists. Plain and simple. Grocery lists, work lists, etc...

The genius of Remember the Milk lies in it's many ties to other web applications. You can tie your LIST ITEMS to Google Maps. Imagine being able to list a task you have to do in another town...neat isn't it. Your list items can also be tied to Twitter.

Some other useful features are the ability to have Remember the Milk send you an IM of a list item that is due. You can even add/modify lists from your Iphone/Blackberry or any other portable web-connected device. You can even view and edit your lists from inside of Gmail.

Incredible! I highly recommend taking a look at this application. We will be discussing it further during that week's presentation.

Throughout the course of this blog and lesson we will be exploring applications and ideas about Web 2.0 and how it ties together with Library 2.0. I will be posting information that I hope you will helpful.

"Cloud computing - the sky's the limit!"

This week we look at extending the utility of the Internet through "cloud computing". These online applications allow creating and editing documents from anywhere there is Internet access, but they also invite collaboration. There is also many powerful applications online that rival their desktop-based counterparts.. and they're usually FREE!
